KIBU Pioneer Journalism Class Thrive in the Industry

Various Kenyan universities and other institutions of higher education are often known for the level of excellence their students achieve in different fields and industries. While the giant universities boast of their many years of existence, the younger ones come to the limelight due to the outstanding productivity and success of their students. Kibabii University continues to celebrate awards accomplished by many of its alumni in various fields. The university’s Journalism and Mass Communication alumnus recently bagged a global award in Sports Journalism, a clear indication that indeed Kibabii University is a hotbed of talent.

Stephen Keter (Right), a graduate from the same department, class of 2018 emerged the third in Africa under the Young Reporters Broadcast category during the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) awards for the year 2020. According to the results released by AIPS on their website (https://www.aipsawards.com) on Thursday 1st April 2021, Keter’s story, ‘From Olympian to ‘Mama Mboga’, a tale of how a veteran athlete who had been neglected by stakeholders, managed to beat tens of entries in the category to emerge among the top 3 in Africa and top 10 in the world. It was a captivating and encouraging story especially to the youth who should emulate the level of dedication exhibited by the athlete in question. Mr. Keter currently works with NTV as a Studio Technical Operator in Eldoret but has a keen interest in Sports Journalism. He is just but one of the many alumni of the premier class of Journalism and Mass Communication who are thriving in various media and media-related fields.
